I freshly downloaded FreeBSD 7.0. I updated the ports, but was unable to install VNC, TightVNC, or Firefox 2.
I was able to install Fluxbox and Firefox 1.5.
VNC gave me this error: “local modification time does not match remote.”
TightVNC said it needed a Java patch. It directed me to a website to download a file, but it won’t download. (Tried on 2 different systems using different web browsers)
I completely wiped out the FreeBSD installation and tried again. I had the same problem.
Is this a common problem with FreeBSD?

It is nowhere near as easy to get such software as Linux. Not many people are yet writing compatible programs. And those you would normally compile on Linux, require a different compiler for FREE BSD.
