I want to set up a centralised network in my home using Ubuntu as the server, where do I start?
I’ve got about 15 computers that I want to use on the network
I want to use Ubuntu Linux as the server operating system. I currently have both desktop and server edition of Ubuntu. Some of the other computers use Windows Xp Pro, one is Win 98 SE and the rest are Linux RedHat or Ubuntu
I want to have roaming login for all the computers, so, for example, you can log on to one computer, set your desktop background to your fav picture, then log off, log into a different machine and your background has followed you
I know Ubuntu is powerful enough to handle it, but how do I set it up to control all of this?

I dont believe that you can use a roaming login for windows with Ubuntu, as Windows needs a directory service for this. If you have the cash, get Windows Server 2003. But, Ubuntu with Samba installed will allow you to share files, folders and printers, just not a roaming logon. Good luck!

Download and read documents about Ubuntu.
