Nokia 5800 Firmware Updates To v40.0.005: Adds Kinetic Scrolling & A Reworked Homescreen

Nokia has rolled out the v40 firmware for theNokia 5800 via the Nokia Software Updater. Changes include implementation of partial kinetic scrolling to the device and a revived homescreen to match the Nokia 5530 XpessMusic.

Other changes include auto-switching to the on screen QWERTY keyboard when you turn the device and a few optimizations to the tap/double-tap selection process and the addition of Ovi Contacts. The update is now available over the air as yet and may not even show up on the NSU across all regions, as always patience is the key.

Update includes:

Partial Kinetic Scrolling
Changed UI in the homescreen similar to the 5530XM
Updated Nokia Messaging
OVI Contacts pre-installed
New screen alarm when locked

* Homescreen similar to that of 5530 with Contacts Bar (20 contacts).

* Replaced “Update Application” with “SW Update” as on the Nokia N97
* The application “Data transfer” was also implemented in “Settings”

* Touch more responsive
* Improved stability
* NOT HACKABLE!!

How to Update the Firmware?

One of the following methods should work for you-

1) Via OTA: Just enter *#0000# on your dial screen, then go to options- check for updates.

2) Via NSU: Connect the phone to the PC and check with Nokia Software Updater application or ovi suite if the update is available.

Note: Though the 5800 has UDP (User Data Prevention) feature, yet its always recommended to backup your phone before updating the firmware.
