Why does my Windows Live Messenger 2009 repeatedly start itself after I start IE?
To elaborate, Live Messenger starts itself up sometime after I start running IE. No matter how many times I kill the program, it continues to restart itself until I exit IE.
It started doing this last month and I was using IE7 then. I’ve upgraded to IE8 but it still happens. I’ve run virus checks and re-installed the application but none of that helped. I’ve gone through Messenger’s and IE’s settings but I don’t see anything that could trigger this behaviour. The OS is Windows XP service pack 3.
And please, no comments about switching to Firefox/Chrome/Mac/Linux etc. Thanks!

Edit: According to Process Explorer, svchost.exe [DcomLaunch][TermService] is what’s starting up Live Messenger.

It’s a feature.
Go to BHO and force it to show you the add-ons that do not require permission. Toast the ones named “Windows Live” that refer to files that begin with msgsc…

@barth – I think you got it! NICE ONE. Crazy thing is IE wasn’t even open the entire time. So far so good though.

I am having the same problem except mine opens whenever I open battlefield vietnam. I’ll check back this page to see if anyone finds the solution.
