chrome os61 Cant change IP address! Need help?
wabbit sniper asked:

I’m not trying to change it for illegal purposes (don’t worry) or anything like that, I got unfairly banned from a website for “hacking” (WT_F I can barely program a 2+2=4 calculator on VB)…

But when I change my IP address I can’t connect to the internet for some reason… It says I’m connected to a network but I can’t connect to any website using firefox, chrome, IE, whatever!!! Please help?

OS: Vista 32 bit
Connection: Cable/DSL
ISP: Cablevision

Not sure how you’re trying to change your IP address, but if you’re simply going into network properties and assigning yourself ’192.xxx.xx.xx’ or whatever, that’s not going to work.

Also, that 192.xx IP address is your local IP address. The website would have banned your external IP address (the one that your MODEM has, not your computer).

Not sure if you’ll be able to change your modems IP address, but just try power cycling it.

Oh, and you can use a proxy to get to the site most likely. Google > free web proxy

That is because you do not change your public IP the ISP and the dhcp does that. If you changed your local IP of course things are going to spaz out. Banned is Banned and if the website has your MAC address all you can do is move and by new hardware.

You will need to get a new IP address for your cable modem from your ISP. This will come whenever your ISP decides to give it to you. You can try to renew/refresh your IP by connecting to your modem/router and requesting a new IP address there. But you might just get the same one until your ISP decides to give you a new one.

If you just wait around a while, then you will get a new IP address in a few minutes/hours/days/weeks… whenever you ISP decides to give you one. But it will happen eventually.

Just keep in mind that unauthorized access of a computing system (such as a forum) is actually a crime. So changing your IP address to return to a forum that banned you IS a crime. You probably won’t get arrested, but I thought I’d point that out.
