freebsd78 How to download FreeBSD?
Jet asked:

I want to download FreeBSD to use genetic Unix. I’m having trouble downloading FreeBSD because there are lots of FreeBSD downloads. The downloads on ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/7.0/ state this: 7.0-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso, 7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso, 7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc2.iso, 7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc3.iso, 7.0-RELEASE-i386-docs.iso, and 7.0-RELEASE-i386-livefs.iso. I’m so confuse what .iso should I download. Should I download all, 7.0-RELEASE-i386-disc2.iso, or the 7.0-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso? What is 7.0-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso? What .iso(s) of FreeBSD should I download?

You can use the bootonly ISO to do a network install i.e. It will automatically download all the things you need, so no need to get any other ISOs if you’re installing on a computer with an internet connection.

Alright so u will need to download disc 1, 2, and 3 to install freeBSD 7.

Though I think disc 1 should be enough.

I suggest u try PC-BSD first cause its the exact same thing as freeBSD except its easier, the latest version which is PC-BSD 7 contains freeBSD 7.
