Ok, here’s an example of my plight… it just happened again about 20 minutes ago. icon razz My computer just stops opening programs for now apparent reason. Why? Read more for further explanation. :P?

Well, I was browsing with the new Firefox (but this problem also occurred with Chrome), when just out of the blue, Firefox just freezes! Everything else works fine, like any opened folders or anything, but if I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and end Firefox, it won’t come up again. In fact, if I am forced to end Firefox manually, almost no programs will run! Chrome won’t run, Firefox won’t run, ZQuest won’t run, Sims 3 won’t run… nothing basically. The only thing that will run is if I open a folder or My Computer or something! But even if I click on a program in that view, it won’t open. Right-clicking a program and clicking Open won’t work. EVEN PRESSING CTRL+ALT+DELETE WON’T BRING THE TASK MANAGER UP! (or Ctrl+Shift+Esc, for that matter)

I think that there’s something wrong with Flash Player or something, ’cause one time, while I was running Chrome, it said Flash Player had crashed, and that same problem (with nothing running) cropped up again. icon razz My computer just stops opening programs for now apparent reason. And just so I don’t have to say so later, this happens much more often with Firefox than with Chrome for some reason. With Chrome, it usually only occurs if I’m running a certain other program at the same time (Zelda Classic, google it); with Firefox, it just seems to happen if it gets overloaded or just for no reason at all!

It wouldn’t be so bad if I could figure it out, but I can’t, so I have to restart my entire computer and boot it back up so that I can run programs again! What’s weird, though, is if Chrome is already running when it happens, Chrome still works and everything! But if I close Chrome and try to open it, it doesn’t open. Firefox usually crashes if this bug occurs, so it automatically has to close.

Also, I found this trick (if it might be of importance) of how to avoid this problem with Firefox… If Firefox glitches up and freezes, I can press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, click on the Processes tab, and End the Process Tree of firefox.exe; then whatever stops me from opening up Programs doesn’t happen! (which is a good thing) So, as long as I have Windows Task Manager up before something happens, I can end the process tree of Firefox, and it’ll still work. But if I close Firefox before I end it’s process tree, I won’t be able to open up programs.

And, that’s my problem. My OS is Windows XP, Service Pack 3. This problem has only been occurring since a little after summer began, but it’s occurring more and more now that I started using Firefox 3.5. So, whatever it is has to do with Firefox more than Chrome, but I love Firefox so much, I don’t want to give it up!

Please help, and thanks for any assistance! icon smile My computer just stops opening programs for now apparent reason. Why? Read more for further explanation. :P?
