No one can argue that Apache is the number one choice in web servers. It’s the most secure, scalable and powerful web server in the world.

There is never a “best”. There is only pros and cons.
Unix is more secure and stable but its a higher learning curve.
Linux has more toys. It will do the new neat things that come out. Most servers for web will refer you to LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) sometimes that last one is Perl.
I run two servers from my house. I prefer Debian. Its easier to setup and I like the software catalog. The updates are easy and keep it secure. And if I need something I can bring up the catalog, search, tag it, hit the install button and BANG I have it all installed and configured.
Altho if I were starting over I would probably look at Ubuntu Linux. Its derived from Debian and has all of the things I liked but with some new goodies and a really large support base online.

Ubuntu Linux is very user friendly and can be setup as a server with LAMP (Linux Apache Mysql and PHP) It will be on the linux platform with the absolute best webserver Apache. Tons of applications for just about ANYTHING can be executed on Ubuntu. Its updated regularly, has great documentation and support and in my honest opinion is the best LINUX OS out to date A link is provided below with product information and download links. Remember…ITS FREE!!
