Why all the panic over Swine flu?

swine flu338 Why all the panic over Swine flu?
Fairfax asked:

There are about 300 to 400 million cases of malaria each and every year, about 1.5 to 2.7 million of which are fatal. There are approximately 16 million cases of Typhoid each year, about 600,000 of which result in death.
Any death from disease is regrettable but surely the concern over Swine flu is out of prortion when you consider that tens of millions of people are dying from other diseases each year and no one seems to be nearly so concerned.

Because Malaria and Typhoid effect poorer countries and people from richer countries are arrogant to the problem.

Also this could be three times as worse as the flu of 1918 were 40 million aprox died, thats 120 million people aprox. especially since it could take up to 6 months to find a vacine.

THERE ARE NO CASES OF SWINE FLU IN THE U.S.A. AT ALL THEY ARE ONLY IN MEXICO AND MEXICO CITY. The doctors here in the U.S.A. aren’t worried about it why should we.

Probably because it’s said to become a “worldwide epidemic”.
I think the media’s overblown it a bit, though, which isn’t helping.

Shano: Wrong. there are over 200 cases in the US, but nobody’s died yet. This Swine Flu’s different, and they’re worried it could become a pandemic and be like the 1918 flu epidemic (look up spanish flu).

Perhaps its because a “serious pandemic” which occurred in 1918 killed some 50 million people worldwide. I believe it was the Spanish flu virus. The other diseases are generally restricted to certain countries only.

You want an honest answer? Because it’s affecting the countries that actually matter…
