opensource127 Open source internet filtering for a network?
abcdc asked:

Hi,

I have a home network with a Windows 2000 server running Routing and Remote Access, DHCP, Active Directory and DNS, how can I filter internet content, but have the option to override with the proper credentials (Kind of like the St. Bernard iPrism appliance) with a free, opensource software?

Thank you in advance!

PS. I dont want a software that has to be installed on all of the computers.

Put an IPCop firewall in front of your server.

Build a smoothwall firewall. Smoothwall is open source Linux based. You need any PC with a 486 or better processor, two NICs and a hard drive. Check for free software. There is an entire community of supporters and developers behind this product and it’s quite simply the best you can get for your network. Building the smoothwall firewall and operating it will give you insight into packet filtering IP, chains, and IP tables.
