opensource212 Can you use any Linux program on any Linux setup?
Conceit asked:

I am mostly a graphic designer, a bit into editing…and console emulation…I’m looking for a Linux setup that would satisfy me (I could probably keep a Win/Linux setup if there’s no emulators in Linux)

I would like to install the ONE working linux edition program which is Cinelerra (I’m shocked there arent any other decent OpenSource alternatives) but I’m not sure whether or not I can do this on any Linux setup.
Thanks for all the responses so far, if I had the level to I would thumb you all up! I am just a guy using Windows that is into OpenSource apps, so all this Linux “distro” jargon is a bit scary for me right now…and honestly I know very little about what it takes to set up Linux, I may give wubi a try

Yes, usually. I am not aware of any mainstream distro on which you cannot install Cinelerra.

By the way, have you looked into Jahshaka at all?

Thumbs up to inconclusive…

Also, there are several video editing programs out there, it just depends upon how simple or complicated you want to get. In addition to Jahshaka, LIVES and Kino immediately come to mind on the open source front, both of which I believe are available for most distributions in an easy to install format.

You want to install Wubi . Wubi will install Ubuntu but it will not partition your hard drive. Ubuntu is one of the most common verisons of Linux.

Cinelerra work with Ubuntu and so does many other programs.

ALSO if you download the older verison of Wubi (7.10) you will get the option to install Ubuntu Studio which exactly like Ubuntu only you get the option to install a list of programs depending on what reason you are going to use Ubuntu Studio for (Audio, Video, or Graphics)!

Hope i helped,
Andrew
