I’m really scared, serious answers only please, I just heard about the swine flu?
I live in southern california and tonight and I started having certain symptoms but not all of them. I only have diareah, tight chest, cold chills, dizziness, and lethargy. Vomiting seemed like a main symptom but I haven’t vomited once. Does this sound like it could be the swine flu????

No way to tell without going to get tested.
Listen up. Pigs, birds, humans, and a few other animals are close enough related that we can share some viruses. Influenza is always bad, and kills hundreds of thousands every year, without regard to what kind it is.
Usually, young healthy people have little to worry about so long as they stay hydrated. Even the Swine flu passes like a normal flu. It’s just rare that a flu can be transmitted so easily between people when it comes from an animal. It usually has to keep coming from those animals with very little human to human contact have any effect.
That’s why this is getting so much news. That’s all. The mortality rate is lower than 1% right now, and that’s in Mexico! Mexico is not known for being very good medically. It’s a 3rd world nation. No one has died in the US from this flu. Someone likely will, just because they would die from any flu, but this one is no more deadly than all the rest.
Don’t worry about it, stay hydrated, and make sure you call a doctor if you need one.

Most people are blowing off the cases of Swine Flu in Mexico but if you actually research the 1918 flu pandemic you’ll see that it started as a pretty regular form of flu and then mutated into something much more deadly. The risk with the H1N1 virus that is currently in Mexico is that we don’t have ANY vaccine against it and it will take months to produce any. If this virus mutates as the virus did in 1918 then we are looking at some serious trouble. In the 1918 Pandemic the majority of deaths were in 18-35 year olds, the body’s immune system reacted so strongly to the virus and so much mucus was produced by the body to try and expel it that people suffocated on their own snot. This is why the members of the population that had the healthiest immune systems died in greater numbers. I wouldn’t worry though, no one in the US had died. The virus is just getting started, just pray it doesn’t mutate.

Get into your doctor, and get tested. I’d stay away from other people and wear a mask so it doesn’t spread if you have it. I heard some of the anti-viral drugs do seem to work but you must catch it early. I’d go to the hospital and wear a mask and say you think you have the flu.

I am sure by now you have been to a doctor, and hope it is not swine flu. The good news in all of this is that Relenza and Tamiflu seem to be effective against this disease so you should be ok if treated early.
I think this would become very serious if there is pandemic and there is not enough medications for all sick people to be treated.

Swine flu is not much different from the avian flu that gave us a scare back in 1997. The influenza virus mutates often and we are always one step behind it. This is just another mutation of the virus that the CDC has never seen before. Pigs can actually catch the human type of unfluenze as well as the tyoe that infects birds. When a pig gets infected with more than one type of influenza strain they can mix together genetically creating a new strain we have never seen before. In this instance it is a genetic mixture between all three, human, swine and bird flu all wrapped up into a very scary and potentially pandemic threatening situation. Just to give you an idea of how dangerous this can be, in 1918 the influenza virus killed at least 22 million people and some think even up to 100 million worldwide. Now, that was 1918, our population has increased considerably then and we travel around the world so much more these days making the possibility of spreading the virus very very quickly. Take a look at this article to get a more in detail look at just how threatening it can be.

It is possible that Swine Flu was a virus created by man and that it either escaped the facility that created it, or was deliberately released by some country to experiment with biological weapons.
The US said that they had proof that SARS was linked to China and their biological release on the public in Taiwan as punishment for Taiwan breaking away from China.
The chance that its Swine Flue is man-made is 95% because:
1.It appeared suddenly this month.
2.It is a genetic mix of swine-bird-human
3.It is spreading on a non-flu time of the year
4.It is spreading rapidly, more so than regular flu

No that is not the signs here they are:
This swine flu and regular flu can have similar symptoms — mostly fever, cough and sore throat, though some of the U.S. victims who recovered also experienced vomiting and diarrhea. But unlike with regular flu, humans don’t have natural immunity to a virus that includes animal genes — and new vaccines can take months to bring into use.
Stay informed, and you should be fine!

The symptoms of swine flu are the same as other flus. Vomiting and diarrhea are not generally primary symptoms of influenza.
Unless you recently returned from Distrito Federal, Mexico, I’d guess that the chances are about 10,000,000 to 1 that you do not have swine flu at this time. If you have just returned from Mexico City, your chances are only about 1,000,000 to 1 that you don’t have swine flu.
BTW I totally made up those statistics, but I stand by my opinion that you don’t have swine flu.

Well, sometimes the more you think about it, the more symptoms start to show. It has a lot to do with the human mind and psychology.
I live in Canada, and today I got a phone call from my dad warning me and my mom about the Swine Flu. I am currently having a cold, and my mom started FREAKING out and she thought I catched the flu. Well I hope i don’t. But most likely it’s just a flu (I hope!)
Sometimes it could all be a coincidence , the symptoms. Last last year I did research on the symptoms of HIV. it said Dizziness, Diarrhea, short breaths. and I pretty much fit all of them. Later on I got my body checked and realized that it was nothing and I was thinkint WAY too much. So i was having these “illusional” symptoms.
But if you really want to know, go to the doctor and have it chcked. Don’t worry, there is apparently a treatment for it so you won’t die
good luck!

1. Think about this: If Relenza and Tamiflu seem to be effective against the current strain of swine flu, and these vaccines were developed for a different strain of influenza, how much dangerously different could this swine flu be? Symptoms are “flu-like” and not some bizarre never before seen symptom.
2. Every year there are new strains of influenza that have mutated or were more resistant to existing vaccines and nobody ever warns about a pandemic from new cases. The current scare sounds more like a way to get people scared enough to pay for flu shots.
3. The body’s immune system is the most important element when recovering from exposure to influenza. That means in the absence of having an already compromised immune system you’re no worse off than if you came into contact with any other flu virus. Even if you get the most common flu viruses that have been out for years, and you don’t take care of yourself after contracting sypmtoms (e.g., you continue to go to work, you don’t get enough sleep, you don’t drink enough water, your diet is poor, etc.), you could get worse and need hospitalization. And guess what? The current flu vaccines don’t always protect you.
4. Speculation about the swine flu “mutating” into a “more deadly” strain that will cause a pandemic with thousands of deaths worldwide is only SPECULATION, and until someone can predict the future there’s just no reason to be worrying to the extent that the media is senationalizing all this. Freakin’ world of angst.
5. (perhaps most important for your health) Stay away from the news media sensationalizing a “pandemic” of swine flu that hasn’t even occurred yet.

Many viruses have the same initial symptoms. However that doesn’t mean you do or don’t. Do you have a temperature? Are you alone? If you are worried we can’t help you on Yahoo – phone a family member or friend or if you are getting dramatically worse phone for a doctor or an ambulance.
