Is there a really good and free forever, perhaps opensource video software I can use?

Try “Adobe Premiere” and “After Effects”
Go here:
Type in “adobe premiere” in the search bar and several versions will appear. Then do the same with “Adobe after effects”.
And you will need a bittorrent client to accomplish the download. Here is a good one:
