Invisible downloaded files on desktop?
Hi,
Today I have found that whatever file I download on my desktop, it becomes invisible automatically. Even activating “Show hidden files/ folders” from the “Folders Option” did not help. The files do not come up in search result also. But when I try to download another file on the desktop, then in the “Save As…” window, I can see the earlier downloaded files. The files can then be copied or cut from within this window and saved appropriately anywhere else. I have not made any change in the system from yesterday. Can you please identify the root cause of this problem and how it can be rectified?
OS: Windows XP SP3
Antivirus: AVG Home Edition (Updated)
C Drive: 5.38 GB (790 MB Free)
D Drive: 31.8 GB (7.32 GB Free)
Browsers: Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome 2.0
Thanks in advance.

maybe files are downloaded on other user’s desktop
this happened to me once
when you see the old downloaded files click on one and open properties , then you can see the location of the file
if it’s on the same desktop you use then you should try making a new user
if it’s not the same desktop you know what to do then .
also you can open my computer >> C:>>> documents and settings >> you will see folders with users names open every folder and check the files in the desktop folder .

I suspect you may not have been searching through the right set of files. Try this:
1. Do a download to get to the Save As… dialog box.
2. Note EXACTLY what directory, path and all, it’s using. This will entail clicking the down arrow on the list box at the top of the dialog.
3. Use that path in Windows Explorer.
I don’t know of any reason the files would show up in the Save As dialog but be invisible in Windows Explorer.
Hope that helps.
