chrome os58 What is a browser plugin?
E.T asked:

I read about how google made a plugin for users to use IE on their chrome, and they were saying about some security issues. can anyone explain my questions below to me please?

What is a browser plugin? Is it a full application running in OS or is it just a application on browser? or is it something else? and how does the plugin affect the security of the browser?

A third party software (e.g. search tool bar) which integrates into a web browser to extend browser’s capabilities. It is more like a helper application to browser.

Browser plugin is a dll(dynamic link library) that is loaded by the browser. It is not an application, it is part of the browser when it is loaded into RAM. The plugin affects the overall security of the browser in general. The more code is loaded in memory, the more vulnerabilities may be found in it. You should not care about it much, though – it is still pretty safe to use.
