Why is everyone freaked out about the latest swine flu?
Yes, I know it killed 150 people. The flu kills more than that every year. Did you know in 1918, it killed between 50-100 million people? That it was as bad or worse than the black death? This is nothing compared to previous flus.

Everyone is concerned because this is a novel flu virus. And observations thus far show that adults in their prime are most susceptible to death from this virus. This resembles the 1918 flu virus that you refer to that killed so many. Many are scared of a repeat.

because this is only the beginning. It has been three days and the number of outbreaks has multiplied. and it is going to make the economy worse then it is already..
do you know how long the black plague lasted? we are talking years here…
people are afraid because it mutated from animals, who knows if our antibiotics will work? and another question is why haven’t there been any deaths in the USA, since it came from the same killer strain in mexico.

I don’t know…but at where I work (As a dish washer) they are telling us to wash our hands a lot now and wear new gloves if we touch something dirty we have to wash our hands and get new gloves to touch clean things. I hope it doesn’t get that bad…don’t think it will…the news might be making it out to be worse than it really is…but if not…just take the steps they said to do to keep from getting it.

You are making premature ejaculations about its virulence. Or is it just wishful thinking? Viruses spread exponentially. We are at the base of the sigmoid curve and no one knows how steep it will go.
Good luck with dealing with your prematurity problem.
Edit: Jessica, antibiotics do not work against viruses; they never have. Tamiflu and Relenza are two anti-virals we can use until a vaccine is made in volume (9-12 months).

because the flu is preventable by vaccine. NO ONE is vaccinated for the swine flu WE ARE ALL AT RISK and even WORSE it is resistant to tamiflu which is the antiviral normally used to treat the flu. the only antiviral effective against the swine flu MUST be given before 48 hours in order to work. if you wait longer its too late…
