What is the best software that controls another computer remotely over the internet?
My elderly Mother lives 2000 kilometres away from me, and I spend a lot of time doing remote assistance with her through MSN Messenger. But Messenger is hit and miss, only works when it wants to. Is there an OTC software that works perfectly do do this?

I use remote desktop when connecting to my office PC. You may need to be setup as a user on the remote desktop or you can log in as her. I believe that her PC will have to have certain services running for remote desktop and her firewall would have to allow it as well. It’s like you’re sitting at her PC when you log in.
It’s free software from Microsoft so I think it’s worth looking into. I know I connect over a VPN to the office and then startup the remote desktop to connect to my PC there. It seems you can use a computers name or computer IP

This is what I use all the time:
It works like a charm and it’s FREE!!! You both need to install it on your computers and then, just share the “PC access number” generated by the program.

Another voice for LogMeIn. The first setup is a tad confusing because you have to create an account and then install the software on her system, but it works a treat, and you can operate her system from any computer that can reach the Internet.
