How do they test for the swine flu? And if you’ve already had a flu shot, will this help ward it off?
My family and myself all had the flu shot in November/December. We are stationed at Ft.Bliss, TX which is El Paso, unfortunately on the border. I also have a 6 month old who was too young to get the flu shot then. What about now? Is she still too young?

How to test if swine flu is suspected: a respiratory swab (nostril sampled with a swab) should be collected within the first 4 days of illness. This can be done at any medical facility. The sample would be sent to a CDC or other qualified lab for real-time RT-PCR or viral culture testing.
As correctly answered by others, current flu shots won’t protect against the swine flu.

Consult the pediatrician. They can help. Good luck!
