What is the best jewelry CAD software in terms of ease of learning and creating good designs to manufacture?
I am new to jewelry design. And would like to design jewelry with a CAD software which is easy to learn, allows you to draw and modify 3 D designs easily such that a jeweler can manufacture them. Can I learn the tool myself or do I need to take a class? If a class, where can I take it?

There is only one serious choice and that is 3Design. By far the easiest and most powerful for desigining jewellery. JewelCAD is most common but very old tech and limited, Matrix is a failed attempt at professional software (May as well get RHINO with TechGems….. much cheaper than Matrix and works 100 times better), Monarch is a CON dont believe thier marketing………. try get proper demo from them is impossible as they themselves cant use software, ArtCAM is akward and mentally draining but great if you do intricate engraving with CNC Mill.

Monarch Software provided by JccD&A, Inc. is by far the MOST ETHICAL COMPANY. See their website (www.monarchjewelrycad.com) to see how not only the company builds beautiful product, but more important how their customers are building. Customer Service is terrific. 3Design was dropped from Stuller Settings, this should tell you something. Call the company directly to see a live demo for yourself and not what anyone tells you.

Monarch jewelry cad has a great engine behind the underdeveloped software. I was a user but the company has some serious issues. The owner thinks he is gods gift to cad modeling, but never wants to show you anything unless you pay him 150 dollars and hour. Also, I can name several individuals who have all paid different amounts for the software and support. That company feels you out to see how much income you may be generating in order to determine what your able to pay. Most pay over 9 grand some only 6 or so. It is a one man show over there so good luck with that. Matrix has come along way in terms of development. They have a great team and are constantly improving. Call monarch and ask when they updated the website last and you will get a feel for the company.

Ryan Lee at JC’s Jewelry Repair IL has always complain with every body you can see how his customers are not happy with the company( see below) , Ryan has many problems and can not be coach, Monarch Users are very happy to have been Mentor by John, Ryan in his own words could not be coach. You can only teach a person who wants to learn . “Do Not Have Your Jewelry Repaired by J.C.’s Jewelry & Repair!” “Dana – Dec 11 2010 (rated 1/5). “DO NOT HAVE YOUR JEWELRY FIXED BY J.C.’S JEWELRY & REPAIR! They do not guarantee their work and they are rude. Initially when I brought my ring in to have it repaired they were pleasant as pie. When the bridge broke which is what they soldered I took the ring back to them along with the receipt for the work they did. It never crossed my mind that they would refuse to repair it without charging me the same amount they charged initially for the repair work. This was less than 8 months later. As other reviewers have said she took my ring to a guy in back who determined that it was a stress fracture to the soldering. They lady was a genuine snob. She told me the ring was poorly designed. Really? It’s my ring’s fault… Wow. It held up for nearly 50 years just fine.”" MANY MORE COMPLAINTS

It depends on how complex your designs will be and your budget. A typical full-feature 3D software will range from 3500.00-4500.00 dollars. There are of course many other options that are even free (blender.org), but from experience they aren’t always the most user friendly.
I would definitely recommend taking professional classes online or at an authorized training center.
Online:
There is a software called Matrix 6 by Gemvision that has many great features and support.
