swine flu405 Why is the swine flu considered Pandemic?
Mayu asked:

The swine flu has infected many people.. yes… and killed say 200 people around the world (the majority in Mexico… two POSSIBLE cases in California)

but why is this considered pandemic… but the typical flu isn’t?

The typical flu kills over 100 people A DAY during the flu season according to the CDC and Wrongdiagnosis.com

The typical flu is a world wide virus… and while there is a vaccine… there will be a vaccine for this too… they’re already working on it.

so why is this pandemic, but the normal flu that kills more people yearly, isn’t?

“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a pandemic can start when three conditions have been met:[1]

* Emergence of a disease new to a population.
* Agents infect humans, causing serious illness.
* Agents spread easily and sustainably among humans.

A disease or condition is not a pandemic merely because it is widespread or kills many people; it must also be infectious. For instance, cancer is responsible for many deaths but is not considered a pandemic, because the disease is not infectious or contagious.”

well, at the moment it’s spreading with no cure or vaccination. it is a new subset of the flu virus, and it’s infectious. it has effected numerous places throughout the world, therefore it may classified as a pandemic.
at the moment it isn’t, though. it’s just a level 4 alert.

………The alert level is on 4. This is not considered a pandemic. TRUST ME, if they were calling this a pandemic, you would see looonnggg lines at the grocery store from people stocking up, and no one would be outside.

Um, I consider a pandemic..Spanish Flu, killed 40 million in two years. Not swine flu, it killed 150 in a very highly populated area. If it were the Spanish flu, thousands would be dead in a month. Bleeding or hemorrhaging from mucas membranes…ewwwPeople were collapsing in the streets, homes were boarded up.

honestly, i would love to tell the people to shove it up their @$$, were so perfect. This wont kill us. It will make us stronger. Its really annoying that this is the same exact thing as the flu, yet theyre making a huge deal. Oh and to the people that say THERES NOTHING TO STOP IT! try.. TAMI FLU? They already said tami flu is killing the virus. So chill..were fine! :] And I got something worse than the flu this year, but nobody was flipping like it was the end of the world. And the flu vaccine does not stop the flu. It stops ONE type of the flu, the one they predict to be the cause of sickness that year.
