opensource227 Inexpensive Digital signage solution to power 30 monitors?
NaTa2 asked:

I am looking for a low cost digital signage solution.

Basically i want to drive an LCD monitor with a flash visualization. Similar to a retail sign or information sign at the airport. I would sacrafice flash for a good solution. I would prefer to use/support opensource software.

The only caveat is that i need the solution to scale over 30 displays.

I have looked at possibly using 1 mac mini for each display. But the idea of managing 30 mac minis seems annoying. I think that the best solution would be the the cisco digital media player – http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7220/index.html. But licensing for the management software is around 40k. But the price point of the appliance is perfect.

Do you know of any other solutions that are similar?

Hi… we have the perfect solutions for you. Don’t go with a Mac mini, as you said it would be a royal headache. Our SMP-Web or SMP-Pro players would provide a easily manageable system for you with no huge licensing fees. And, it’s built on a Linux Kernel running a web server designed only for digital signage. Both players play back any flavor of digital media you like. Give me a call or shoot me an email for more info and pricing (found on the web site, http://www.mediavisionsolutions.com. Good luck!

I don’t know if you’re still searching for a solution, but there is a company called Digital View who have consistently been providing rock solid solutions for this application of digital media and networking. Check out their media players here: http://www.digitalview.com/network/
I suggest you give them a call (numbers on the site) as they always answer with a sensible person who will help you out as best they can (even if it means pointing you elsewhere for more appropriate products for your needs!). Good luck.
