Why does my managed software installation never work?

Henry C asked:
Im having problems with group policy software packages. I start up one of my computers and it says “Installing managed software Remote Desktop Connection”, then moves on to “Installing managed software Branded Windows Internet Explorer 7″ and then finally “Installing managed software Fomine Netsend GUI”. The problem is that it does the same EVERY time I boot up, it never actually installs them, although IE7 is already installed. Any Ideas as to why this is happening?

General GPO troubleshooting (if “gpupdate /force” does not fix the problem):
1. Remove the workstation from the domain (on the workstation and server). Reboot workstation.
2. Reattach the workstation to the domain and place it in the correct OU on the server. Reboot workstation.
This will require domain and local admin privileges.
EDIT:
This is assuming other workstations in the same OU do not have the same problem. Otherwise, check your GPO Software Installation settings (must be UNC names) and MSI files.
