MySQL is fairly robust and really easy to use.

Postgres is more complex.

If you’re custom building the application you have at least three choices.

sqlite
mysql
postgres

All are free, and all are open source. Sqlite is the simplest of the three.

I don’t know to much at all about databases but I found a comparison of some open source databases.

you can probably find a full application to serve your needs.

goto

do a search…..it’s amazing what people are working on. Keep an eye out for the last time there was activity on the project at sourceforge…some projects are a few years old, still relative, but you won’t see any further development or new releases. I usually sort by how many downloads……….

good luck.
