This year I have to file for IL, IA and NE (ugh), so I want to know if anyone has any reccomendation for a cheaper but trustworthy tax software… Or is my old friend TurboTax the way to go?

If you are filing all of that, I HIGHLY recommend you get a professional to assist you. At least price them to see how much.

Every year, I have many people come to me that did Turbo Tax but it isn’t as easy as many people think. They get notices from the state or IRS and then hire me to fix it all. Fixing the errors usually takes more time and costs more money than if I had done the return the first time.

I am not saying Turbo Tax doesn’t have a place in the market for some people…just if things get complicated…better to go to a pro than turn in something you are unsure about.

If you are amending more than one tax return, prepare a 1040X for each return and mail them in separate envelopes to the IRS office for the area in which you live. The 1040X instructions list the addresses for the opcampuses. If the changes involve another schedule or form, you must attach it to the 1040X.
